How 'bout that We-Ko-Pa? Original Cholla course still a Scottsdale golf favorite
When We-Ko-Pa first opened near Scottsdale in 2001, the golf course built its early legend largely on word of mouth buzz. Seven years later We-Ko-Pa's original course is now called Cholla Course, and it's ranked the 35th best public course in the entire country.

This is also a great track to play that first round in the Valley of the Sun if your game's been in winter hibernation back home. Or if you simply want to lower your handicap, play Silverado several times.

Papago Golf Course is not close to one of the best municipal courses in the country. But it's a lot better than your average muni, and it's a course worth working into a Phoenix-Scottsdale vacation. Papago is an especially good bargain at twilight, and this is actually the best time to play it. There's just something about putting out under those buttes with the moon moving into the sky.
